VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Four people have been taken into custody by Vancouver Police after protesters gathered outside the offices of Imperial Metals on Hornby Street downtown.
Police say some of the demonstrators reportedly tried to force their way into the office and were acting aggressively towards the staff. Some of them were said to be yelling, pushing and shoving staff members.
When officers arrived they say they were physically blocked by other protesters at both the entrance and exit of the building. Police got in and took four people into custody where they’ll stay as investigators speak to witnesses, look into their action and go over any surveillance footage.
Once things calmed down, protesters went back outside and continued rallying in what police describe as a “loud, but lawful manner.”
On August 4th, 2014 a tailings pond storage facility burst in the Interior sending 24 million cubic metres of waste and water into nearby lakes and rivers.
