Canada captures a silver in rowing

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (NEWS 1130) – It was all about redemption for a pair of BC rowers who have won Canada’s latest medal.

Four years ago Lindsay Jennerick and Patricia Obee didn’t advance to the final in London, this morning they won silver in the lightweight women’s double sculls.

They were fifth through the first 500m while trailing by nearly three seconds at the midway mark. They started to make up ground over the next 500m, moving into third place. Then they really picked up the pace and finished just 1.15 seconds behind the Netherlands. China finished third.

The pair is two-time world silver medallists. They also finished fourth at the 2015 World Championships.
Canada’s only previous medal in the event was a bronze won in Beijing eight years ago.
