Whitecaps fall to eighth in the west after 2-1 loss to Earthquake

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Whitecaps offensive struggles continued at BC Place in a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Earthquake.

Quincy Amarikwa opened the scoring in the 14th minute when he headed in a corner. Midfielder Simon Dawkins added the insurance marker in the 60th as San Jose (7-6-10) won its first road game of the season.

Nicolas Mezquida put the Whitecaps on the board late when he scored with less than a minute left in stoppage time.

The Whitecaps were thoroughly outplayed in the first half by the Earthquake, as they failed to register a shot on net. San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham made six saves in the second half to preserve the win.

Vancouver (8-11-6) is winless in its last five league matches and falls a point behind San Jose for seventh in the Western Conference.

Their next game is on the road in Kansas City.
