Cooler temperatures help crews gain control of wildfires burning in the Interior

OKANAGAN (NEWS 1130) – Wet weather is helping crews fight a couple of wildfires in the Interior. Provincial firefighters along with their counterparts from Vernon worked through the night on a six-hectare fire near Predator Ridge.

An evacuation alert for 45 homes has been rescinded.

Rachel Witt with Wildfire BC says it’s now 95 per cent contained. “Today it has shown [to be]…a smoldering ground fire with minimal smoke. We have a unit crew which is 20 firefighters on site as well, continuing to mop up operations today.”

Another fire forced the closure of Highway 3, between Princeton and Osoyoos yesterday, but that road has since been re-opened.

That fire is east of Princeton, and about five hectares in size and 75 per cent contained.
