Beware of phony rental ads: BBB

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A heads up to college and university students looking for places to rent as the head to class next month.

Leah Brownridge with the Better Business Bureau says there are lots of phony ads out there with people posing as landlords. “So what you want to look out for is postings that have very minimal information. So no pictures and very brief information as to what is included for the property or the rental itself in terms of utilities, payment, the location, and the description of the property.”

“There have been some ads out there that say they require a credit cheque, and while some legitimate property owners out there will ask for that, you want to make sure they are going about it in the right way.”

She suggests doing an online search of the address and taking someone with you when you meet with the landlord in person.
