VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Despite dealing with a few days of rain, the folks that run the Fair at the PNE say it was a successful summer.

In its 106th year, organizers claim 712,367 people attended the fair — which is up five per cent from last year’s tally of 678,193.

“This year’s Fair received a very positive guest response to a number of our entertainment shows and attractions, including the Unbelievable Magic Show, the Angry Birds exhibit and our Summer Night Concert Series,” says PNE President and CEO Mike McDaniel.

He adds that food continues to be a big draw. This year, favourites like mini-doughnuts and corn dogs were devoured but there were also new treats like deep fried tequila and a Mac and Cheese stuffed hamburger.

The fair also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hunky Bill, who has spent the last five decades selling his perogies at the event.

Next year’s fair runs from August 20th to September 5th.
