Pilot identified after Powell River plane crash

POWELL RIVER (NEWS 1130) – The pilot who died in yesterday’s plane crash in Powell River has been identified as 54-year-old David Thomas Tetarenko of Coquitlam.

The BC Coroners Service says Tetarenko was the only one inside the Piper Twin Comanche, which was on its way to the Powell River airport.

Witnesses say the plane was moving strangely before it went down in a clearing near the 4500 block of Joyce Avenue, near the community’s downtown core at about 11:15 a.m.

Tetarenko died at the scene. Nobody else was injured.

There is still no word of what cause the crash. The Coroners Service, the Transportation Safety Board, and RCMP are still investigating.
