Call to action for housing affordability help

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A housing rally is set to take over the Vancouver Art Gallery this afternoon.

Justin Fung works with Housing Action for Local Taxpayers or HALT.

He says people used to tell him to stop complaining, but he believed other people cared about this issue too, so he decided to start a rally instead. “Folks are saying ‘you know maybe I shouldn’t live in the city anymore’ and so you have the parents in their homes and they are seeing their kids moving away because of this and they are seeing that community around them empty out.”

Fung says the market has forced him to take action. “You know what we are seeing over the last five or six years has been really unprecedented. I think there has been an avalanche of foreign money that has come into our housing market which has really distorted it and brought in the speculation and greed.”

The rally starts at 2 p.m. at the Art Gallery on Robson Street.
