Man arrested with loaded rifle at Abbotsford Airport

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A man has learned the hard way – what you sling over your shoulders at the airport may get you some unexpected attention.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested after he was found in a washroom at the Abbotsford Airport with a loaded SKS rifle and ammunition.

Ian MacDonald with Abbotsford Police says it all started when a manager at the airport noticed the man carrying a rifle bag, and made a call to police.

“Sounds like he was having some dealings over a rental car. Neverthless, you are conspicuous when you walk around with a rifle bag over your shoulder at an international airport.”

Police found the man at the airport.

“It turns out we take him into custody without incident at one of the washrooms at the airport. We want to see the contents of the bag. Inside it, we find an SKS rifle that is loaded and some additional ammunition as well.”

Police are planning to recommend weapons-related charges.
