Police looking into attempted abduction of teenage girl in Abbotsford

By

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A scary experience for a young girl in Abbotsford yesterday afternoon. Police are looking into reports someone tried to abduct a 16-year-old from the side of the road.

Abbotsford Police say the teen was waiting for a bus on Old Yale Road near Mitchell Street around 5:15 p.m. when a van pulled up.

Constable Ian MacDonald says the driver offered her some alcohol and a ride to work. “She refuses the ride but at a certain point the suspect just grabs her by the arm and tries to pull her into the van. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan nearby starts yelling at the suspect and that’s enough to cause the suspect to flee.”

“Obviously you go to the worst case scenario and the potential that could have happened yesterday and we credit both the victim for being heads up about her surroundings and noting that there was a suspicious male in the area and obviously the Good Samaritan for intervening,” he adds.

Police are looking for a white man in his 20’s, about 5’5” tall with a tear drop tattoo under his eye. He was driving a red or burgundy van.
