Search for senior last seen on Cypress Mountain called off

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After searching for nearly three days straight, local rescue crews have suspended the search for a missing 65-year-old woman on Cypress Mountain. Debbie Blair is said to have become separated from her group of friends prior to a hike on Thursday.

West Vancouver Police Constable Jeff Palmer says this was a tough decision, but one that had to be made. “The risk of continuing to search more dangerous areas and also the likelihood of a positive result, in weighing all of the factors, a determination was made that the search should remain suspended at this point.”

He says her family was told last night that it was too dangerous to send searchers into more dangerous areas. “We are always conscious when we are conducting these kinds of investigations how upsetting this is for families and how much you.”

“It is a very difficult circumstance obviously we would much rather be in a situation where we could provide some positive information for the family.”

Blair has short, brown-grey hair and was wearing blue and white runners, white cotton pants and a blue baseball hat, and did not have a jacket when she disappeared. She is also hard of hearing and suffers from early-onset Alzheimer’s.

The missing person investigation remains open and active.
