Vancouver hires first film commissioner

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver’s film industry has a new leader. Industry veteran David Shepheard has been hired as the city’s first ever film commissioner.

Shepheard will become a major voice for a business that’s already booming.

We’re already the third largest film production centre on the continent and 2016 is primed to be another record year.

Shepheard comes in having run Film Commission services in London.

His job will be to market Vancouver to film execs worldwide and serve as an advocate for the industry through a unified voice. “I’m not going to say it’s going to be an easy job but it’s going to a real easy conversation to have with production execs and people who are deciding where these projects will go all around the world,” he says.

City Hall has invested $200,000 into creating a new Film and Media Centre which includes Shepheard’s role.
