ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – An online video of a racially offensive confrontation is gaining traction on social media.
In the video posted to Twitter, a man is seen in a parking lot shouting racial slurs, expletives, and the words “white power” to a person behind the camera. The man also asks, “When did you come to Canada?” The man behind the camera is heard saying, “I was born in Canada.”
At one point, the man on camera grabs a cell phone from a parked pick-up truck and walks up to the videographer.
Abbotsford Police Sergeant Judy Bird says an investigation began after a video of the confrontation surfaced Friday. She confirms the video was taken in a parking lot in Five Corners.
“It appears as though this was a confrontation between a traffic enforcement officer issuing a violation ticket to the driver of the pick-up truck and he became angry when a passerby who was concerned for the safety of the enforcement officer started to video tape.”
Bird says there was no physical altercation after the video ended and that it’s too soon to say if hate would be investigated as a possible motivation or if a criminal element would even be considered.
