Election fears may be prompting Americans to search for jobs in Canada

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Those billboards advertising Americans moving to Canada depending on who wins the US election may have some truth to them.

An online job posting site is showing numbers to support the claim.

From January to October this year there were more than 30,000 searches using the keyword “Canada” on the popular job search site Monster.ca. In all of 2015, there were under 20,000, an increase of 58 per cent.

But is the election to blame? Monster Canada‘s marketing director Sheryl Boswell says it is possible.

“I think that there might be a lot of frustration with the scandals and the election and I think it’s actually driving people to think seriously about moving up north.”

“Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, he actually recently joked about accepting unhappy Americans post-election, so, moving to Canada might be an option… we’re definitely not building a wall,” added Boswell.

Top jobs being searched in this country involved engineering, information and technology jobs, and accounting took third place.
