Abbotsford gas prices not as low as they should be: analyst

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – If you drive between Abbotsford and Vancouver with any regularity, you may have noticed something strange going on with the gas prices.

Prices in Abbotsford are usually about ten cents cheaper, but as of Monday night, the margin is only about four cents.

Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, admits he’s never seen this before.

“It suggests to me that someone’s either made a terrible error, or ‘out of sight is out of mind’; no one is calling this increase in prices in Abbotsford offside, which it should be,” he says.

“My best advice to people living in Abbotsford is to give this a few days. Do not patronize a gas station until they get back to the 99 cent level, which gives them not only a big, fat, retail margin of ten cents a litre, it also allows them to cover all their other retail costs.”

Callers to NEWS 1130 note that at least one station in Abbotsford is selling gas for under a dollar per litre: Costco.
