Gas stations are overcharging local drivers: Abbotsford mayor

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – Abbotsford’s mayor says there is no question, gas stations in his city are overcharging drivers. But, Henry Braun admits there’s not much he can do about it.

Typically gas prices in the Fraser Valley are about 11 cents cheaper than Metro Vancouver.

Braun says recently he’s seen the price difference around just two or three cents. “Clearly, without a shadow of a doubt the energy companies are overcharging our residents because they can. What are you going to do? You need fuel,” he says.

Braun points out gas prices aren’t a city issue. “Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of levers at my disposal. Provincial and federal jurisdictions have authority over that,” he says.

Braun adds the City of Abbotsford does have plans to speak to the other levels of government. “Energy companies are overcharging, I think that’s a fact. Why that’s happening. For that I don’t have an answer.”
