NEWS 1130 Worst Commute winner commutes several hours daily

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – The latest winner in our weekly contest Worst Commute contest leaves the house and hopes to make it through traffic to get to her job.

Take a look at what Melissa Del Monte has to deal with every day.

“I commute from Maple Ridge to North Vancouver (the Capilano Mall area) five days a week. I take Lougheed Highway to the Pitt River bridge, then the Maryhill Bypass to Highway 1, then go through the Cassiar tunnel to the Iron Workers Bridge and from there take the Upper Levels Highways until I reach the Westview exit.

On average it takes me an hour and a half each way during rush hour traffic, and on days there are accidents or issues along the route, it can take me two and a half hours. On a few occasions, I’ve commuted for over four hours a day just to work at 8 a.m. Almost daily there is some type of issue on the Maryhill Bypass, Highway 1 or the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge. It’s definitely a hectic commute!”

We asked Melissa if she ever considered moving to the North Shore just to ease her commuting pain, but she says it’s simply too expensive.

Her commuting pain earns her $500 from our partners at Jim Pattison Volkswagen Surrey.
