VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Aquarium is not releasing any more information about the death of their beluga whale Aurora until tomorrow.
But the facility is under fire from those who are against whales being kept in captivity.
At a Marine Symposium yesterday, Dr. Lance Barrett-Lennard with the aquarium’s Cetacean Research Program says it’s been a difficult couple of weeks for all of them.
“Our staff have to deal with the grief and have to deal with the fact that they are suddenly pariahs. It makes me angry and it’s not a question of how you feel about animals kept in captivity, it;s how you feel about people… so give us a break for a little bit please
The 30-year-old whale died late Friday night after suffering from an undetermined illness for over a week.
The results from this weekend’s necropsy should be made public tomorrow.
