Premier calls second round of racially-charged flyers in Richmond a ‘disgrace’

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Another racially charged flyer has been found in Richmond and now the premier is weighing in by condemning it and calling on the public to act.

The flyer accuses the Chinese community of not paying taxes and ruining the housing market and Christy Clark isn’t having any of it. “I think it’s a disgrace.”

She says this is not what BC is about. “It’s one thing for people to hold those views, it’s even worse that they think it’s acceptable to start trying to publicize those views by delivering it.”

The last flyer featured calls for white people to join the self-proclaimed Alt-Right, a US-based white nationalist movement, to stop the Chinese, while this one features a headline that says immigration has turned into the plundering of Canada.

A rally held last weekend at the Richmond-Brighouse SkyTrain Station called out this kind of rhetoric. “It’s not what British Columbia is about. I think the way to stop it is for all of us to condemn it,” says Clark.

Richmond RCMP had been investigating the last round of flyers and want to talk to anyone who sees any act of hate to call them at 604.278.1212.
