PM accused of playing hooky from Question Period

OTTAWA, ON. (NEWS 1130) – It appears Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been playing a lot of hooky from Question Period in the House of Commons.

As the opposition tries to hold the federal government to account with a daily volley of questions, more often than not, Trudeau isn’t there.

An analysis by the Huffington Post finds the prime minister has missed 69 of 118 Question Periods during his first year in office. That’s nearly 60 per cent and much more than the 46 per cent of truancies logged by former leader Stephen Harper during his first majority term.

About two-thirds of these absences were because the prime minister was on official trips outside the country. The other one-third is because the Trudeau had chosen to schedule other events or meetings during Question Period.

A statement from the prime minister’s office says Trudeau has always taken his work in Parliament seriously, but his responsibilities are not limited to Question Period. It says the Prime Minister has been engaging with Canadians across the country as much as possible.
