Henrik Sedin could reach a major milestone tonight

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – During the last Canucks game Henrik Sedin notched his 999th point, bringing him that much closer to a very elite club.

Tonight against the Florida Panthers he will try to get at least one point, making him the 85th player in NHL history to reach the 1,000 point mark and the first ever Canucks player to reach the milestone.

“For all of his accomplishments on the ice, he is a better person than he is a player — the consummate professional. He’s humble, accountable, the perfect captain. He plays hurt, but never complains. He’s a solid mentor and a strong competitor, and all of this is wrapped up in a great sense of humour. If he reaches this milestone tonight, it will be against his friend Roberto Luongo who will be in the Panthers goal. Henrik joked he expects even Luongo to be just a tiny bit happy if things unfold like they’re supposed to,” says NEWS 1130 Sports Director Ann Schmaltz.

Since the Sedin brothers joined the Canucks back in 2000 and quickly became fan favourites. “What he’s most proud of, is the fact that he and his brother Daniel have been in the same city with the same organization all this time and play in a hockey market and stay in it without getting caught up in all the ups and downs. It would mean a great deal to him to get this point on home ice and as he admits it’s a special place to play and to get it in front of the Vancouver fans — it would be big,” adds Schmaltz.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at Rogers Arena and you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
