Man's body found between Second and Third Beaches in Stanley Park last night

VPD Major Crime Unit called in after man found dead in popular park

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver Police say a 61-year-old man stabbed on the Stanley Park seawall last night died at the scene. A person of interest is in custody and police are trying to figure out if that person played a role in the man’s death. The VPD also says it’s too early in the investigation to know whether the killing was random or targeted.

Investigators say they were called to the area just before 11 p.m. where they found the victim between Second and Third Beaches. The death is being treated as a homicide and the VPD’s Major Crime Section has been called in to handle the investigation.

Constable Jason Doucette says a person of interest was found nearby and taken into custody and they want to find out what they were doing there. This is the second violent attack in the park since November, but the VPD stresses it’s a safe place to go. “We don’t have any information that’s connecting the two, however, as part of the investigation we will continue to look at the facts of this file, any other previous files and see if there is any connection. And we will share that information with the public if we think there is a concern.”

This is Vancouver’s second homicide of 2017.

Officers are interviewing witnesses as they try to nail down what exactly happened. Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604.717.2500 or CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.8477.
