Thousands of ICBC claims filed during snow storm

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We saw it during the last round of snow and ice storms and it appears ICBC is once again being inundated with claims.

The insurance bureau says in the first six days of February, its Dial-a-Claim centre received 21,254 calls. For the first six days of February of last year, the call volume was 17,820. “We’ve seen a 20 per cent increase in calls when comparing the two months,” explains Sam Corea with ICBC.

He adds February 6th was one of the busiest days this winter with 5,463 calls. “With more winter weather on the way, we continue to urge motorists to drive for the conditions.”

ICBC says according to a recent survey it conducted, four-out-of-10 people admitted they feel less confident driving during the winter, while others say they feel less safe and frustrated by how other people drive.

Police, the province and road crews are encouraging people not to drive unless they have to until this latest storm passes.
