VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Tomorrow is Family Day in BC, but not everyone is getting ready to celebrate.
An online petition looking to change the date of the holiday has now collected almost 19,000 signatures.
This is the third straight year Andrew Johns has called for the date to coincide with the rest of the country.
Johns says like many people, he has to work on Monday because the markets are open across Canada.
“The spirit of Family Day is to bring as many families together as possible, so logically, if everybody celebrating their holiday on the same day, that means you’ve got the maximum number of people who get to celebrate together.”
He plans on sending the petition to Premier Christy Clark tomorrow.
He’s optimistic the province will eventually listen, since he believes most British Columbians agree with him.
