Canucks face Carey Price and the red-hot Canadiens

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks begin a five game homestand this evening against the Montreal Canadiens at Rogers Arena. It will be a tough test for Vancouver, as the Habs have won five straight.

Defenseman Ben Hutton says his team is ready to shut down their big stars including Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk.

“They have some fire power. We know it is going to be a tough test. We have to come in and play smart defensively. We have to stay above them, don’t give them any odd man rushes and bury our opportunities when we get a chance.”

The Canucks enter the game six points back of the final playoff spot and Bo Horvat believes it is still within reach.

“As a group here we are starting to get healthy and we are starting to play well. We have no doubts in our minds that we can be that team that surprises a lot of people and I think we are ready to go here for this homestand.”

Horvat will be playing on a line with Sven Baertschi and Nikolay Goldobin. Goldobin gets his chance on the second line because Loui Eriksson will miss one to two weeks with a lower body injury. Coach Willie Desjardins also revealed Jacob Markstrom is still at least a week away from returning and Nikita Tryamkin is also out tonight.

Ryan Miller gets the start in net, while the Canadiens will counter with Carey Price between the pipes.

This is the second and final meeting between the two teams. Montreal defeated Vancouver 3-0 on November 2nd.

The puck drops at 7 p.m and you can watch the game on Sportsnet.
