NDP leader talks tough to close out legislative session

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – On this last day of the latest legislative session in Victoria, NDP leader John Horgan has some fighting words for the woman he wants to replace as BC’s next premier.

“I’m stoked. I can’t wait to get going. I’ve been waiting for this for three years and the game’s at hand. Let’s get going.”

The opposition leader is counting on voters to be mad enough to demand change when they head back to the polls.

“There’s a simmering anger about the arrogance of this government. That they’ve neglected key services for people who want to make sure the economy’s working for them –not just for those who are giving donations to the BC Liberal Party. Some people are working two and three jobs at minimum wage to make ends meet. The premier, until recently, was working one job and getting two salaries.”

Horgan’s also admitting a vote for the Green Party helps the Liberals.

“That’s implied in what I’m saying, though, that I’m going to talk to everybody and say, ‘If you want to get rid of them, the best way to do that is with this group of people right here.”

“They’re bloated, they’re arrogant, they’re out of touch and their singular focus is filling up their coffers with big money and making sure that they address the needs of the people that are passing them the bucks. I think it’s time for a change,” adds Horgan.

As for whether he believes the Wild West scandal dogging the premier is enough to win NDP support, “they see donors to the BC Liberal Party getting government contracts. They have a problem with that. The BC Liberals have been doing deals with the same people that have been giving them money for the past 16 years.”

Horgan says the best way to get rid of the Liberals is to vote NDP May 9th.
