St. Patrick’s Day hangover tips

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Are you planning on hoisting a celebratory beverage or two — or maybe six — tomorrow night?

Where the green beer flows, a post-St. Patrick’s Day hangover is sure to follow, but there are some tried and true ways to help avoid spending the day after close to the cool porcelain of your commode.

“You just have to think ahead a little bit,” suggests David Mott with Brandywine Bartending School who says you need to remember two key things, starting with what you’re actually drinking. “If you are going to drink in excess, choose the best quality liquor. If you choose really low quality beers or low quality spirits, you’re going to find they affect you a lot more.”

Mott also suggests you stick to clear spirits like gin or vodka. “The worst thing you can drink is ‘everything.’ Always avoid mixing,” he tells NEWS 1130. “If you have a beer, a scotch and then a glass of wine, that is going to kill you compared to just drinking vodka all day, then beer all night and just sort of sip glasses of wine.”

His second recommendation is to make sure you get water into the mix, either in your drink or after each one.

It can also help to head into your Saint Patrick’s Day partying with a set number of cocktails in mind and trying to stick to it.
