Suspect images released following Surrey homicide

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Homicide investigators have released surveillance video and images of a man believed to be responsible for a homicide in Surrey earlier this week.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now asking for your help to identify the man seen in the footage outside the Comfort Inn Hotel where a man was shot to death this past Monday.

Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound says they have clear video of the suspect as he starts firing at the victim, 29-year-old Birinderjeet Justin Bhangu.

She’s now pleading with any witnesses to speak up. “Such public displays of arrogance, inhumanity — it outrages the communities. And we know that the community members, the general public themselves, and even those entrenched in this criminal lifestyle, are enraged enough to bring information forward and we need to speak to those people.”

Bhangu was killed in the parking lot of the hotel while sitting in his car. He was rushed to the hospital, but died shortly after. He was known to police but the motive is still unclear. However, police believe this was a targeted hit due his criminal background.

IHIT TIMELINE:

  • Mr. Bhangu was driving an Acura MDX and pulled into a parking spot in front of the hotel at 2:22 p.m.
  • The suspect was driving a Nissan Pathfinder and was backed into a parking spot close by
  • At 2:23 p.m. the suspect exits his vehicle and approaches Mr. Banghu from the driver’s side of the vehicle
  • While approaching the vehicle, the suspect begins shooting at 2:24 pm.
  • The suspect ran back to his vehicle and fled the parking lot west bound making a right hand turn onto Fraser Hwy.
  • The Nissan Pathfinder, driven by the suspect, was recovered in Kelowna the following day (March 14th)
