Police warning after 12 overdoses reported in one morning

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A warning from the Vancouver Police after a high number of overdoses reported to police this morning.

Officers were advised of 12 suspected drug overdoses in the area of Columbia and Gore on the Downtown Eastside today.

Fortunately, none of these overdoses resulted in a death.

Sarah Blyth with Overdose Prevention Society says it’s a problem that is not going away anytime soon.

“All drugs have fentanyl in it. People who think that they’ve got this great drug dealer that would never give them anything… even the drug dealers, the low level dealers, they don’t know what they’ve got. So nothing’s safe anymore.”

The VPD is reminding drug users not to use alone, to carry naloxone, and, in the event of an overdose, to call 911 right away.
