Whitecaps back at BC Place to face the Galaxy

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After a bit of a layoff, the well rested Vancouver Whitecaps still search for a regular season victory on Saturday night at BC Place against the LA Galaxy. (7pm)

The Galaxy haven’t fared much better to begin the campaign (1-2-0) but have at least collected three points at the end of one outing this season – something the Whitecaps will try to manage after not having played for a couple of weeks.

The Whitecaps moved the needle earlier in the week, acquiring midfielder Tony Tchani and 300k in allocation money from Columbus for Kekutah Manneh.

Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said on Friday that he would speak to Tchani on match day to see if he could make his on field debut in Vancouver.

“He’ll be involved in the 18, which is important. The other midfield players have to react. If I’m bringing a player in for the benefit of the group, then you’ve got to step up. When you get a chance to play, it’s your chance to shine.” Robinson said.

The head coach, who was once teamates with Tchani in 2010 with the New York Red Bulls, knows what Tchani can bring to the table for this team – hopefully some offense.

“With the personel we have at the front of the field, with Fredy (Montero) coming in, we need to try to get more bodies up there. I needed to find a box to box midfield player, and Tony fits that bill.”

As for Los Angeles, the Galaxy could have some help for Saturday night, with the possible returns of Giovanni Dos Santos, and Gyasi Zardes. Both players were able to train fully over the past week.

The Whitecaps will be without Brek Shea for this match. Shea is serving a one match suspension for being shown a red card two weeks ago in a loss to Toronto FC.
