OTTAWA (NEWS1130) – An Ontario man known as “The Backyard Astronomer” could now be confused thanks to an asteroid after one was named after him.
Gary Boyle spends a good bit of his time educating people about astronomy.
“I’m trying to promote astronomy and entice those little ones to look at the sky,” Boyle said.
First discovered in 1995, The International Astronomical Union recently dubbed Asteroid 22406 “Garyboyle.”
“Now I’m bathing in the moment for sure, that my name will be immortalized in space forever,” he said.
The asteroid is about 327 million kilometers from earth and spends most of its time near the orbit of Mars, Boyle said.
