MSP war of words continues

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The squabble over the future of Medical Service Plan premiums continues.

Vancouver-Quilchena Liberal candidate Andrew Wilkinson is on the attack again, this time accusing rank-and-file NDP members and their leader of not being on the same page.

Wilkinson claims several New Democrats feel MSP premiums should be rolled into the provincial income tax system.

“Eight of their candidates say that’s a necessity and yet their leader has said they’re going to study it because he doesn’t want to figure that out, and doesn’t want to acknowledge that taxes will have to go up.”

“Well, it shows that the NDP are really disorganized. They have their candidates saying entirely different things from their leader. Their candidates are acknowledging that they want to increase income taxes and their leader is just hiding the issue and pretending it’s not going to happen.”

Yesterday, Wilkinson warned a New Democrat commitment to kill MSP premiums within four years would cost taxpayers too much.

He claims if the Liberal government is re-elected, it would reduce premiums by $900 million by next year, and remove them entirely as the economy grows, depending on the health of the economy.
