Creep Catchers Surrey holds fundraiser to continue operations

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The Surrey chapter of Creep Catchers is holding a fundraising event to make a plea for cash to help pay for its daily operations. But there are some things you should keep in mind before donating money to any unregistered group.

Creep Catchers, which lures and confronts people it suspects of being predator pedophiles and posting videos online of its stings, has said any money it gets through donations goes to things like legal fees, phone bills, travel expenses and even dinners for the crew.

But because there’s no record of any group called Creep Catchers being registered as a non-profit organization in BC, you might want to consider accountability.

Evan Kelly with the Better Business Bureau won’t comment on Creep Catchers in particular but says you should do your homework when it comes to any public plea for cash. “These are not investments. These are not charities, you’re not going to get any kind of tax write-off from this.”

He adds it’s easy to figure out if an organization is legitimate. “You want to go to the Canada Revenue Agency, they’ve got all the financials and listings of the registered charities.”

The Creep Catcher fundraiser is at the Columbia Theatre in New Westminster at 6:30 p.m. and it includes a comedy show and door prizes.
