Deadline for HandyDART service bookings extended

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Metro Vancouver’s door-to-door HandyDART door-to-door, shared ride service is getting some much-needed improvements.

Translink CEO Kevin Desmond says customers will now be able to book services until 4pm the day before they travel, instead of having to meet a noon deadline for reservations.

He says the changes are taking effect Monday, after demands from many vocal users.

“The next-day booking window for our HandyDART customers will be extended to 4pm. So what that means is up until now, if you wanted a trip tomorrow you had to book it by noon otherwise you would be put on a standby list.”

“We examined that. It was something we were able to put in place very quickly, so this is the first of many recommendations that were developed by our advisory committee and approved by the board.”

Desmond says this improvement comes on the heels of being able to boost overall service by about 15 per cent this year, translating to about 85,000 extra trips.

Desmond is also promising more improvements as funding becomes available.

In recent years, numerous complaints have been filed about HandyDART, which now has more than 300 buses, failing to pick up passengers on time or at all.
