Nanaimo hotel room assault may be hate crime: RCMP

NANAIMO (NEWS 1130) – Police believe a man who was beaten and tied up in a downtown Nanaimo hotel may be the victim of a hate crime.

A businessman and another man ended up in a hotel room together, where the businessman tells police he was assaulted, tied up, and robbed. He was taken to hospital and required surgery, according to the release.

Police are working to determine if the attack was based on the sexual orientation of the victim.

He is described as a white man around 30 years old, with a medium build. He is balding in the front, and has a moustache and goatee. He was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt, dark jeans and flip flops.

If you have any information, you’re encouraged to call police or Crime Stoppers. Police are asking the public not to approach the man.
