Door-to-door vote collecting in flooded areas

By

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – Elections BC has had to send a mobile team of election officials into the Shuswap area because flooding forced the closure of a polling station.

Andrew Watson with Elections BC says the election officials went into the Shuswap electoral district with a ballot box and collected votes door-to-door.

“In an area in which there was no access to another polling station. That case affected, we estimate, about 30 or 40 voters.”

Despite it that, Watson says it hasn’t been so bad.

“In most other cases we were able to inform voters about other voting opportunities in their area that they were able to access. It’s something we are monitoring closely.”

“By the sounds of it, at least from the voting administration perspective, things have been fairly stable today. So you know in cases where we had to move a voting place, that was communicated.”

Some other voting places have had to be moved including one in Kelowna but Watson says the situation has been handled and communicated well.
