Warning over high school grad game

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The North Vancouver School District has been forced to issue a warning to students about a game that could have serious consequences.

School is winding down and this is usually the time when high school grad students have a little fun. But parents have raised concerns about a game called Gotcha.

“Gotcha is essentially an enhanced tag game,’ says Deneka Michaud with the school district.

The game has been played for years, but students are adding new elements and some are now taking pictures of other students naked while playing the game.

“A student takes or possesses an image of anther student who’s underage, nude. That’s illegal, it’s actually possession of child pornography and they could be charged,” says Michaud.

A warning has been sent about the serious ramifications the game could have.

“It could remain online and accessible for the student’s entire life, and that could have really dire consequences for them as they do things like apply for post-secondary or career opportunities.”
