Prepare to laugh away your pre-conceptions with Comedy on Wheels

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A comedy show in Vancouver expects to break down some barriers while getting some giggles this week.

Comedy on Wheels is a disability-inspired show combining stand-up performances, rap, comical scenes and some surprises. Celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday, it showcases comics from the disability community.

Director Rena Cohen says the show has something for everyone.

“We’ve got 17 amazing artists. People who live with disability, they’re doing stand-up and sit-down comedy, there’s live music with a Comedy on Wheels band, we’ve got a slam poetry piece.”

“I think we’ve got an amazing ensemble and so we’ve got a variety of perspectives. I think we’ve got tremendous talent.”

Cohen says sharing a laugh can dissolve barriers.

“People will leave laughing and also with a greater appreciation of folks who live with disability. You know, when we laugh together we identify with each other.”

Comedy on Wheels has shows at Performance Works on Granville Island at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There’s also a panel discussion on Saturday afternoon. You can find more details here.
