Shooting between two men who know each other leads to standoff with Mounties

Victim is listed in stable condition in the hospital

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A standoff between Surrey RCMP and a shooting suspect just north of the Pacific Highway border crossing on Saturday evening blocked 176th Street for several hours into early Sunday morning.

Police responded to reports of a shooting on Saturday evening on 176th St. and investigators say they found a man who was reportedly shot by another man who was believed to have still been in the area. The victim was rushed to the hospital and listed in stable condition.

The Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team was brought in to negotiate with the suspect. It’s believed the two people know each other and that the shooting was a targeted hit.

“Safety of the public is paramount as is the well-being of the suspect,” says Corporal Scotty Schumann.

At about 11:50 p.m., Mounties say the standoff “ended peacefully” and the suspect was taken into custody.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604.599.0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS.
