Castlegar vigil remembers London attack victim

CASTLEGAR (NEWS 1130) – The 30-year-old Canadian woman killed in the London Bridge attack just over a week ago was one of many honoured at a vigil in Castlegar.

The community hosted its second annual healing event Sunday evening.

Vigil organizer Deb McIntosh, says the event is held to remember those who have died and to support families and friends within the community dealing with tragedy.

“We just need to some together and that’s how we heal.”

One person being honoured is Christine Archibald, the Castlegar woman who lost her life after three men drove into various pedestrians on London Bridge in the UK.

McIntosh hopes people can find comfort in knowing they’re not alone through these yearly gatherings, regardless of how many people attend.

“Whether we get 10, or 300, the message is the same and the sentiments from those people speaking is the same.”

She adds the vigil is in honour of everyone the city has lost, and isn’t just about one person.

McIntosh says tragedy affects everyone, especially in a small community like Castlegar.

“It has a ripple effect because we’re a small community and we are all connected somehow and at some point.”
