Crews not giving up in search for missing plane

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – One week after a small plane and the two 21-year-olds on board disappeared in the Interior, crews are not giving up their search.

Alex Simons was flying the Piper Warrior aircraft from Lethbridge to Kamloops with Sydney Robillard as his passenger last Thursday, but after refueling in Cranbrook, the pair didn’t make it to their destination.

About 15 aircraft are in the air today, the same number as have been taking part in the search over the past week.

Lieutenant Colonel Bryn Elliott says nothing has come of some weak signals picked up over recent days.

“We’ve checked every spot that we were picking it up, and the problem is it was giving us no direction, and honestly it was so spotty that every time we did detect it, we did send assets to the areas to look around.”

“The way that I look at it is if I can honestly say that we’ve done our best to cover the area from as many altitudes, as many angles as we can, then we’re not going to be finished until that time.”

Elliott doesn’t want to speculate on the outcome at this point.
