Family steps up to teach young kids through 4H club

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – Congratulations to our Unsung Heroes this week Al and Mark DeJong. They were nominated for the award by Pascale Shaw. Take a look at their story.

Al and Mark are father and son who are volunteer leaders in the Otter Llama 4H club. Al has been a leader for over 20 years while his son first participated in 4H and is now a leader as well. They share countless hours of their time teaching 4H kids how to care for and feed llamas.

They teach the kids how to train their animals and once the kids learn, how to share that knowledge with others. The kids become confident young people and much of the credit goes to Al and Mark. Recently, four young members from this club registered and spoke at the Maple Ridge City Council meeting asking council to allow backyard chickens. These young people owe so much to Al and Mark!

Alpine Credits is acknowledging the duo with $500 to say thanks for your volunteer efforts and they’re also donating $1,000 to the Ronald McDonald House Children’s Charity.
