Wildfire burning near Harrison Hot Springs

AGASSIZ (NEWS 1130) – Crews battling a wildfire north of Harrison Hot Springs have been dealing with low cloud cover and lots of smoke, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

Fire Information Officer Marg Drysdale says the fire is believed to be about 60 hectares in size, but visibility is preventing firefighters from getting an accurate size estimate.

She says more than 40 firefighters, additional ground crews, and air support have been called in.

“We’re asking everyone in the area to please stay well back from this fire. We will be having skimmers on the lake.”

A “Notice to Leave a Specified Area Order” has been issued to clear all individuals the area.

The fire has been determined to be human-caused.

Drysdale says there are no homes being threatened.
