BC Liberals left with several options if Christy Clark steps down

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The dust is starting to clear after the tumultuous BC election. Now Christy Clark has a choice to make. She could step down as leader of the Liberals and keep her seat, stay on as the leader or get out of politics altogether.

SFU Political Scientist David Moscrop says there will be plenty of interest for her job if she steps away.

“I would imagine from within the caucus, Sam Sullivan has his eyes on the prize, apparently Andrew Wilkinson is considering it as well.”

Moscrop says there are some people from outside the party that could enter the race.

“Externally you can look at some federal Conservatives. I don’t want to speculate, but it’s worth looking at some former or current federal Conservatives who would want to make the leap. There are all kinds of people I’d imagine that would want the job.”

Moscrop says the Liberals may not have the time to hold a leadership race before the next election so there is a pretty good chance Clark will stay on as the leader.
