AGASSIZ (NEWS 1130) – A wildfire burning near Harrison Hot Springs since Canada Day hasn’t grown but it’s still out of control.
The size of the Harrison Lake East fire remains 60 hectares.
It’s still not threatening any homes, because it’s 30 kilometres away from the resort town. But the fire continues to burn in steep terrain in a heavily used recreation area above the east shore of the lake.
“It’s been determined to be human-caused, but the actual nature of how that started is still under investigation at this time,” says Claire Allen with the BC Wildfire Service.
She says access to the area remains restricted.
“And we do have resources committed to the fire and air support.”
A “Notice to Leave a Specified Area Order” has been issued to clear all individuals the area.
Workers at a marina say boaters are obeying orders to stay a safe distance away, so they don’t disrupt crews working to contain the fire.
