BC man charged over Calgary murder

CALGARY (NEWS 1130) – Calgary police have charged a British Columbian man in a September 2016 murder.

Calvin Brooker, 57, was apparently killed at his home in the Calgary neighbourhood of Dover, but his body was found in an alleyway.

Dennis Jan Sorge, 33, of Terrace in BC, has been charged with second degree murder.

Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta says investigators think the victim knew his killer, and that a fight inside the home led to his death.

“They were known to each other, they were friends. They were friends for approximately a month. The suspect was actually a temporary guest in the victim’s home for about three weeks prior to the death.”

Detectives had also spoke with Sorge before he moved to BC, and he was a suspect at that time.

“It was a very extensive investigative process, including a lot of forensic evidence that we had to wait for through lab work and evaluation, and in consultation with the Crown prosecutors office here, a charge of second degree murder was supported.”

Terrace RCMP arrested Sorge last week, and he was transferred to Calgary.
