Evacuation order issued for entire town of Ashcroft

ASHCROFT (NEWS 1130) – The entire town of Ashcroft is now under an evacuation order due to wildfires burning out of control in the region.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has declared a local state of emergency and ordered residents out of their homes in specified areas as the fire poses an imminent threat to health, safety and welfare to people and their properties.
The BC Wildfire Service estimates the fire burning near the southern interior village to be around 700 hectares in size.
The blaze has impacted structures in the area and is threatening others. BCWS crews are currently assisting the Ashcroft and Cache Creek Fire departments which are on scene.
