Ashcroft fire grows to 700 hectares

Tactical evacuations are now being carried out

The fire is estimated to be around 50 hectares in size

ASHCROFT (NEWS 1130) – The BC Wildfire service is reporting a fire burning just south of Ashcroft has now grown to an estimated 700 hectares.

The fire has impacted structures in the area and is threatening others. Both the Ashcroft and Cache Creek Fire departments are attending.

Tactical evacuations are being carried out and the BCWS says additional firefighters have been called in, to assist crews that have been on scene since last night.

Crews currently have Highway 1 and Highway 97C blocked off near Ashcroft with no estimated time of reopening them.

According to BC Hydro, there are also currently more than 2000 customers without power.

The cause of this fire has not yet been determined.
