Alberta premier commits to helping BC fight wildfires

CALGARY (NEWS 1130) – As wildfires continue to roar across British Columbia, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says her government will help when and where it can.

Notley made the comments at her Stampede pancake breakfast Monday morning.

Having gone through a huge fire disaster last year with Fort McMurray, Notley said everyone understands how traumatic forest fires can be for communities.

“That’s why we reached out to BC and offered them what we have,” she said.

Alberta has already sent about 100 firefighters and 60 emergency support staff to help with co-ordination.

Notley said the government will keep in touch in case more help is needed.

“We’re very open to working very closely with our neighbours in BC because we’re all part of the same country,” she said, adding Alberta has a lot of expertise to offer.
