CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – A high-risk sex offender has moved to Chilliwack.

The Ministry of Public Safety and BC Corrections are issuing a public notification about James Conway in the interest of public safety.

“This move has occurred at the discretion of Mr. Conway and his service provider, WJS Canada,” said BC Correction’s Cindy Rose in a release.

Conway had been living in Mission for close to a year, where locals had been scrambling to find a way to get him out of town.

The 42-year-old has a criminal history which includes sexual interference of a person under 16, sexual assault, and arson damaging property and is subject to a number of conditions.

  • You must remain in your residence at all times (24 hour curfew) and may not leave your residence unless you are supervised.
  • You are subject to electronic supervision.
  • You may not engage in any activity that involves contact with persons under the age of 18, including the use of a computer system for the purpose of communicating with persons under the age of eighteen.
  • You may not engage in any activities, volunteer work or employment that will put you in contact with any person under the age of eighteen.
  • You may not attend at any public park, playground, school yard, daycare centre, community centre or public swimming area or any other site which offers activities for persons under the age of 18
  • You may not wear, for any reason, any uniform which includes but is not limited to, Firemen’s uniforms, Correctional Officer uniforms, Search and Rescue Police uniforms, Security Guard uniforms, Nurse uniforms, or any patch or insignia that represents these occupations.
  • You may not travel alone on public transit.
  • You may not consume alcohol or be in an establishment where alcohol is for sale.
  • You may not possess any weapons.

“Mr. Conway remains under the highest degree of supervision. He is on 24-hour house arrest, and on 24/7 electronic supervision, which means he wears a GPS-enabled ankle bracelet at all times and monitoring staff will receive an alert immediately if he leaves his home,” says Rose. “As well, he cannot leave his home without prior approval and without an approved adult. Together, these comprehensive monitoring measures greatly reduce the likelihood of his coming into contact with anyone in the community.”

If you see Conway violating any of these terms, you are urged to contact local police.
